Stellantis, the parent company of Dodge, RAM, Chrysler, Fiat, and more, has announced plans to start building electric versions of its popular RAM 1500 as well as a line of muscle cars. Not only have they announced plans, production has begun. That’s right, get ready for an all electric RAM 1500!

All Electric RAM 1500

RAM brand CEO, Mike Koval Jr, has pledged to create a “class-shattering” pickup that will blow away the current electric versions of other electric pickup trucks. His main targets of course would be the electric versions of the Chevy Silverado and the Ford F-150 but the overarching goal is to have the best electric truck on the market. These new electric trucks are expected to hit the market by 2024.

All Electric Muscle Cars

2024 is going to be an ambitious year for Dodge as well. They also plan on having a line of muscle cars that are also all electric. Dodge brand CEO, Tim Kuniskis, stated that Dodge won’t be selling “electric cars” but will be selling “American Muscle” because their biggest consumers, the millennial generation, prefer to purchase an experience and not technology. This leads to better overall performance. Here is a quote from Kuniskis.

“Our engineers are reaching a practical limit of what we can squeeze from internal combustion innovation. They know, we know, that electric motors can give us more, and if we know of a technology that can give our customers an advantage, we have an obligation to embrace it,”

Looks like Dodge is onboard with the electric future.

Investment

Stellantis is looking big into this investment. They are looking to invest $35 million into the development and production of these electric vehicles between now and 2025. They are also looking in investing into four, flexible battery-electric platforms so that these vehicles can go 300-500 miles on a single charge. That’s a larger range than what a Tesla is rated for. Their commitment to lowering emissions by 2030 is a goal they are trying to achieve. By 2030, they expect 40% of their total sales to come from electric or low-emission vehicles. But Stellantis is not stopping there. They also have plans for all electric Jeep & Chrysler vehicles as well. Lower emissions, longer drive range, and no loss in muscle … sounds like a win win for all!

Design Specifics

Unfortunately at this time, Stellantis has not released any design specifications for any of their planned electric vehicles. We do know that their engineers are hard at work to reach the company’s goals. The issue many consumers have had with electric vehicles is that they trade large amounts of power and drive distance to be eco-friendly. Stellantis is going to have to overcome this perception by producing vehicles that clearly prove that these vehicles can compete with gas powered vehicles. We all want to take better care of our beautiful planet Earth but many of us purchase vehicles because we need the muscle that comes behind it. When Stellantis accomplishes this, you will truly see a revolution in car design and car buying.

Hopes For Electric Cars & Trucks

One of the things that I hope RAM can figure out is how to include the power of a Hemi on an electric vehicle. The raw power that comes from a RAM 1500 with a Hemi is really unsurpassed by other vehicles on the road. A Hemi has saved me from multiple car accidents just by having enough power to get away from a situation before it’s too late. By being able to have this kind of power on an electric vehicle, many consumers will change their thinking and really give these eco-friendly vehicles the chance they deserve.

Another thing we will want to see is how fast the battery recharges. A Tesla needs 10 hours to fully recharge its battery. This is a long time. A RAM 1500 carrying a load and pulling a trailer is going to use more battery life than a Tesla driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. This means that these batteries are going to need to be recharged more often. If it takes forever for a battery to recharge, people who use their trucks for work are going to opt for something else. I guess Elon Musk was right when he talks about the need for a better battery.

Final Words

This is really exciting news from RAM, Dodge, and everyone at Stellantis. This investment into our Earth’s future as well as developing vehicles that perform better than what they currently produce can only mean good things for us. I am super excited to see what the new electric RAM 1500 holds for us. We have the newest vehicles like the Dodge Hornet, RAM 1500, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Wrangler 4xe, and more! When they are released, they will be available at the Barry Sanders Supercenter in Stillwater. Stay tuned.
