How to Save Money at the Gas Pump this Holiday Season With the holiday season right around the corner, most people start considering ways to save money for trips and gifts, and students in Stillwater have to get extra creative when considering how else to save money. We are here to help. Trimming away the excess can start with your new or used car. Here are some tips. 1. Slow down and smell the savings The speed at which you travel is directly linked to the speed at which gas leaves your tank. Studies show that once you hit 60 miles per hour and above, your gas mileage decreases substantially faster than at lower speeds. Consider going a bit slower to save on gas. 2. Fill up in the middle of the week Turns out, gas is usually lower on Wednesdays than on any other day of the week. Who knew? 3. Give yourself a choice Most of us are guilty of driving our cars, trucks or SUVs until they are on empty, and then we have to get to a gas station quickly. That's not the smartest way to save on gas. Fill up when it's most convenient for your wallet, not just your schedule, whenever possible. Finding that spot in Stillwater that has the best gas prices will really add up overtime. 4. Are you at the right PSI? Check your tires regularly. The Department of Energy says that when your tires lower by just one PSI your gas mileage decreases by .4 percent. Save your gas money by just monitoring your tires. Easy enough, right?

Both the 2019 Ram 1500 and 2019 Chevy Silverado are completely redesigned full bodied trucks that are actually lighter than ever. The 2019 Ram 1500 lost 225 pounds by using aluminum parts for the hood and tailgate. The 2019 Chevy Silverado lost 450 pounds through aluminum doors, hood, and tailgate. By losing over 200 pounds, the lightweight 2019 Ram 1500 has better fuel economy, enhanced safety thanks to the strength and durability of aluminum, and greater agile performance including being able to accelerate faster than previous heavy cars. The Chevy Silverado at a loss of over 400 pounds will also be fuel efficient, durable, and agile. Each new truck has a V8 engine, Ram with a 5.7 Hemi V8 equaling 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque, while the new Chevy's 6.2 liters produces 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The new 2019 Ram 1500 offers an optional 48-volt mild-hybrid system that helps fuel economy and provides up to 130 pound-feet of torque. Thanks to these engines, the 2019 Ram 1500 improves city mpg by 2 and highway mpg by 1 to 17 and 23 respectively. The 2019 Silverado improves fuel economy by 1 to 16 but loses highway mpg by 1 to 21. Ram will continue offering a diesel engine with similar 27 highway mpg and 20 city mpg to the current diesel truck. Off-road, the Ram 1500 Rebel will get a one-inch suspension lift, locking rear differential, skid plates, off-road tires, hill-descent control, and upgraded shocks from Bilstein with optional air suspension, too. Chevy is releasing an off-road truck as well called the Trailboss with a two-inch lift and all of the same features as the Ram 1500 Rebel, but from Rancho. The RamBox beats competitors again with lockable in-bed storage containers on the bed sides. Spacious interiors abound in both the 2019 Ram 1500 and 2019 Chevy Silverado, but we at Barry Sanders Supercenter note the massive center console in the Ram 1500, and new 12-inch Uconnect information and entertainment center. Having time off from school or work makes the holidays awesome, but make sure you use that time off in the best way; by having fun. Whether you're traveling from Stillwater back to OKC or Tulsa, or staying in Stillwater, we have picked out the best events you should keep on your radar. (Plus, some of them are free.) Oklahoma City Devon Ice Rink at Myriad Botanical Garden Who doesn't like ice skating? This is OKC's only open air ice rink, and the location is prime. In the middle of downtown, within walking distance of both Bricktown and Automobile Alley, you'll get in some skating time and then you'll have plenty of places to go to get food. Snow Tubing Winter Fest Is there a more fun winter activity than sledding? Well, if the sky isn't getting it done in the precipitation department this December, you can go to the Bricktown Chickasaw Ballpark and get some tubing done. It costs for admission, but the snow slides they create are worth it. Bricktown Events Bricktown is known for having some of the best bars and food in OKC, but during the holidays it gets FESTIVE. Apart from the holiday decorations, you'll see thousands of lights from street to street. During the holidays you can also take one of the water taxi rides along the canal for free. Another Bricktown tradition is the Tree Lighting Festival. You can go the day after Thanksgiving to see the 'official' kick off of OKC's holiday season. The Mayor will light the tree, and there will be food trucks and other festivities. Plus, you're still right in the middle of Bricktown. Automobile Alley If Bricktown is too mainstream, try Automobile Alley. You will get all the great eats and fun bars, plus the entire street is covered in lights, from the top of the buildings to the bottom. It is quite the sight. It's also within walking distance of most of Midtown's best spots. Tulsa Winterfest As a native Tulsan, this is my favorite holiday event. A huge open-air ice rink is placed right next to the BOK Center, and there are carriage rides, live entertainment and holiday decorations everywhere. It is one thing you have to do if you will be in or around Tulsa this holiday season. Rhema Rhema is a magical wonderland of Christmas lights. There may be no other way to accurately describe it. The annual event causes thousands to flock to the church's location on the edge of Tulsa and Broken Arrow. Go when it's cold. And if you want quality hot chocolate that isn't homemade, there is a Starbucks on the corner next to Rhema. I suggest the Salted Carmel Hot Cocoa. Utica Square Shopping, holiday music, brilliant landscaping and Christmas lights. That's what you're going to get at Utica. Go when you're looking for special gifts for very special people, and you don't mind spending a few bucks. Lights on the Hill This uniquely Tulsa holiday event is one you don't have to get out of your warm vehicle to enjoy. Drive through miles of Christmas lights and holiday displays in Chandler Park, a quick 15 minute drive from Downtown Tulsa. Stillwater Christmas Parade of Lights Stillwater's best annual tradition, the parade of Christmas cheer will be going through downtown on December 1. Carriage Rides During the Holiday season you can get free rides through downtown Stillwater. This could come in handy. There. The Jeep, Dodge, RAM Show At the 2018 Oklahoma City International Auto Show, our favorite manufacturers really put on a show. Dodge had an excellent selection of cars, vans and SUVs including the 2018 Dodge Charger and the 2018 Dodge Caravan. There are few manufacturers who can make a statement like Jeep. The auto show was another excellent event for the brand, with new editions of the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee on display. Though there was much truck competition at the show, there was little doubt over which manufacturer was the most successful with its messaging. Banners with "Most Dependable Truck on the Road" were everywhere in the RAM portion of the event. And there were plenty of gorgeous trucks around to back up that claim, including the 1500 Laramie and Longhorn.

2018 Jeep Wrangler Wins Google Top Chart Car The new 2018 Jeep Wrangler is equipped with new features and a redesign that makes it a vehicle with great off-road capabilities while also adding more for the on-road comfort. Features include Bluetooth capability, navigation, heated front seats, and a voice activation system. For performance and fuel economy, the new 2018 Wrangler is powered by a 3.6 L V6 engine and gets 17/23 mpg city/highway with the manual and 18/23 mpg with the automatic. It's that time of the year again! The Barry Sanders Supercenter team is bundling up for the Oklahoma winter weather, but we're also shedding our old winter wear for a great local cause. Keep reading to learn more about the pantry drive. Barry Sanders Supercenter is partnering with the Stillwater Public Schools Pioneer Pantry. They are donate\ing winter wear like coats, gloves, hats, sweatpants, long-sleeves, and scarfs for children in the local Stillwater community. We will be taking donations at the dealership from Monday, November 19th, 2018 to Wednesday, December 19th, 2018! The Pioneer Pantry operates year-round to help students in need. Stillwater sits in Payne County Oklahoma where the poverty rate is 26.4%. The Pioneer Pantry offers hygiene products, school supplies, clothing, footwear, and more. Barry Sanders Supercenter believes in the work that the Pioneer Pantry does throughout the Stillwater Public School system! All donations will be dispersed throughout the school systems based on which school needs what. Students can visit the health room or nurse's office at each school to find items or teachers can make requests on behalf of the students. The Stillwater community can email pioneerpantry@stillwaterschools.com to request certain items. There are no limits to what the students can take from the Pioneer Pantry. However, their mantra insists that you give back any way you are able. The mantra states, "Take what you need when you need it, and give what you can when you can." It may still be a balmy 90 degrees across Oklahoma, but it is October, and that means winter is coming. Just like in Game of Thrones, it can be pretty serious... if you're a car, that is. Here's how to prepare your vehicle for all the snow, ice and snowy ice that is sure to cover Stillwater soon. 1. Winter can be especially damaging if you don't have the proper fluids. Engine coolant and engine oil are the two protectors of your engine during extreme conditions (for winter, those are below freezing temperatures.) Before the weather gets overly chilly, get an oil change and check all of your engine fluids, including engine coolant. The coolant not only keeps the engine from overheating in the summer, but it fights corrosion, which is vital for a long-lasting engine. No matter if you have a new car or a used car, engine fluids are a must-check before December. 2. Double check your battery power. Getting out of bed in the morning when it is 27 degrees is the WORST, right? Well, your car feels the same way. Starting your car is half the battle in the winter, so make sure your battery is up to the challenge. If your battery is more than three years old, you are at risk of battery sabotage. You can get your battery tested for power at our service center. In addition to the battery fluid that powered the battery, check to make sure there is no corrosion on the battery connectors, and that the battery lines are not damaged. If all three of these have been checks, the battery should be good to go. 3. Spring isn't the only time that visibility can be a problem. Precipitation is precipitation, whether it is frozen or not. You should always have ta good pair of wiper blades on your vehicle in case you get caught driving in a storm. Also, make sure you have wiper fluid. Snow leaves residue, and you'll want to get it off without getting out of your car. Trust. 4. Belts and hoses are more prone to breaking or leaking. Go through your vehicle and examine all the belts and hoses you can see. Winter is know to make things brittle, and your car's parts are no exception. The belts and hoses are exposed to high heat once your car is up and running, then they are rapidly cooled down when your done using your car, truck or SUV. This process makes them especially vulnerable to breaks. The best way to prevent this is to check for small cracks or tears before winter begins. If you see any hose or belt problems, it is usually a quick and price-efficient fix. Save yourself time and frustration later in the year. 5. Always be prepared. Have plans for a break down. No matter how much you prepare, sometimes winter wins. You should always have the ability to stay warm and safe in your vehicle, even when it is broken down. Also, you should never be stranded without communication in today's age. Which Oil Do You Want for Your Car? Oil changes are a regular occurrence when your are maintaining your vehicle. That means you pay for them frequently, often at least twice per year. Because of this consistent pull on your wallet, you want to be sure you're getting the best oil change for your buck, and for your car. The easiest way to make a dent in the amount of money you spend on your oil changes is to choose old fashioned, mineral-based oil rather than synthetic oil. But is this going to save you money in the long run and be better for your vehicle? That depends on a lot of things. Most manufacturers require owners to choose synthetic because generally it holds up better and longer than non-synthetic. But, going over on the mileage (see your owner's manual) or time (6 months) between your oil changes is never an option; so having 'longer lasting' oil isn't a perk to consider. What you should consider are the weather conditions you are driving in, how much you drive, how you want to impact the environment and the type of vehicle you drive. Weather is one of the toughest things on your car, especially when you live in Oklahoma. From the dramatic summer heat to the drastic cold of winter, your car experiences the weather's mood swings just like you do. The only exception being that it stays out all day and you get to put clothes on and go inside. It may have a tougher time than you do. That's why considering the weather is an important part of deciding on the right oil for your car. Typically, it is suggested that you use synthetic oil and change it regularly when you live in harsh conditions. Not that we live in the tundra, but freezing temps are hard on any vehicle. Do you use your car all day, everyday? Or are you one of the lucky people who live five minutes from work? That will have an effect on your oil change, too.  Shorter drives don't typically heat your car up the way a long drive does. To fully make use of non-synthetic oil, you need to heat your car up to very high temps. These temperatures burn off impurities and the moisture. For drivers who don't drive heavily, synthetic will keep your car healthier longer. We should all try to save the environment in whatever way we can. One of those ways is to use synthetic oil rather than standard oil. Being made from nonrenewable resources, non-synthetic oil is a detriment for the environment because of the way it is gathered. Take this into consideration when deciding on the right oil for you. Your vehicle is a specific type. It was made a particular way. Sometimes, the vehicle you have makes this oil decision for you. We Know Why Your Check Engine Light is On Fellow Oklahomans, we know that your check engine light can be a nuisance at times, but just keep in mind that it is your best friend in regards to identifying potential problems with your engine.
